TULSA, Okla. – The Wichita State men's tennis team fell in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference Championship to the 5th seeded Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Shockers season ends with a record of 5-18, and Tulsa (15-12) moves on to play 4-seed Rice tomorrow in Tulsa.

In doubles,
Richey King and
Misha Kvantaliani fell 6-2 at court one, but courts two and three remained tight. At court three,
Alejandro Jacome and
Luke Bracks rallied from down 4-1 to tie their match 6-6 and force a tiebreak. The Shocker duo would out last the Golden Hurricane in the tiebreak to win 7-5, taking victory on court three to turn all eyes to court two where
Vanja Hodzic and
Marcelo Sepulveda vied for the doubles point.

Tied 5-5 at court two, the teams would split the next two points, sending the doubles point to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, the pairs split the first four points, but Hodzic and Sepulveda won four of the final five points to win the tie break 7-3 and clinch the doubles point for the Shockers.

Singles was not as kind to the Shockers, as the Golden Hurricane found four straight set wins in singles to take the match.

King fell first, losing 6-0, 6-1.

Bracks was defeated soon after, 6-4, 6-1.

Hodzic would drop his match, 6-2, 6-3 to put Tulsa on the brink of victory.

Tulsa's No. 82 ranked Pierce Rollins delivered the clinch for the Golden Hurricane with a defeat of Kvantaliani at court one, 6-3, 6-4, ending the match for Tulsa, 4-1.
