Shockers Break Losing Streak with Road Win Over UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Wichita State men's tennis team ended their losing streak with a 4-1 win over the UT-Arlington Mavericks on Thursday afternoon in Arlington at UTA Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Shockers (4-16) snap a losing streak that had spanned eight matches and Wichita State hands UTA (6-7) their third loss in their last three matches.

In doubles, the Shockers started in a deficit after Luke Bracks and Alejandro Jacome were defeated 6-2 at court three to give the Mavericks an early edge. At court two, Vanja Hodzic and Marcelo Sepulveda took an early lead and never let it go on their way to a 6-3 win to tie doubles 1-1.

Tied 4-4 at court one, Richey King and Misha Kvantaliani would snatch the doubles point for the Shockers by winning the next two games to give the Shockers a 1-0 match lead.

In singles, Hodzic would score first, picking up a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win at court four and making it 2-0 Shockers and earning his second win of the day.

Next, Bracks would be lone Shocker to fall in singles, losing 6-1, 6-3 at court five, cutting the Shocker lead to 2-1.

Sepulveda answered right back with a 6-4, 6-3 win at line three to finish off his spectacular day and push the Shockers to the brink of victory.

After inking out an incredibly close first set win in a tiebreak at court two, Jacome delivered the crushing blow, ending the match with a 6-3 second set win to complete the court two sweep, 7-6 (6), 6-3, and give the Shockers the 4-1 win.

The Shockers return home for a match against the currently 72nd ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Monday, April 1 at 12:00 PM CT at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
