Shockers Defeat Montana, Break Five-Match Losing Streak

DENVER – The Wichita State men's tennis team collected their first win since January 26 with a 4-0 victory over the Montana Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon at the University of Denver's Denver Tennis Park.

The Shockers (3-8) snap a five-match losing streak and collect their first road win since defeating Grand Canyon in their season opener on January 11. The Grizzlies (7-3) have now lost back-to-back matches after starting the year 7-1.

For the first time in over a month, the Shockers were able to clinch the doubles point. The duo of Marcelo Sepulveda and Alejandro Jacome won in dominant fashion at court three, 6-1, and the Shocker combo at court two of Vanja Hodzic and Ziwen Ju grinded out a 7-5 win to clinch the point for Wichita State.

In singles, Sepulveda would take victory first after his opponent retired due to injury at court four, giving the Shockers a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Ziwen Ju cruised past his opponent at court six with a smashing 6-3, 6-0 win to put the Shockers on the brink of victory.

Jacome would deliver the decisive blow with a win in straight sets at the top court, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

The Shockers play again tomorrow against host and No. 38 ranked Denver at 11:30 AM CT.
