FAU Run-Rules Shockers for Series Win

WICHITA, Kan. – Florida Atlantic scored 17 runs in only six innings to take down Wichita State, 17-5, to win the first AAC series of the season Sunday at Wilkins Stadium.

Wichita State (10-8, 1-2) used four pitchers who were all ineffective on the afternoon. Chloe Barber retired just one batter before being removed in the first inning. Lauren Howell allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in 2.2 innings. Alex Aguilar surrendered five runs on just two hits and three walks and Alison Cooper threw the final 0.2 innings. The Owls scored four runs on three hits against Cooper.

Six different Shockers recorded a hit in the game. Taylor Sedlacek and Bailey Urban drove in the only runs on a three-run home and a two-run single. CC Wong, Addison Barnard, Caroline Tallent and Krystin Nelson all had one hit apiece.

Trinity Schlotterbeck had a career game, going 4-for-4 with three home runs and nine RBI. Jesiana Mora was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and five RBI. The duo of Schlotterbeck and Mora combined for seven of the Owls' 10 hits and 14 of the 17 RBI.

Florida Atlantic jumped all over Barber in the top of the first, scoring five runs. A pair of walks and a dropped flyball led to the Owls loading the bases with one out. Jesian Mora then cleared the bases with a triple to the right-center gap. The very next batter sent one over the wall in right-center to make it 5-0, ending Barber's day in the circle just six batters in.

It took just three batters for the Shockers to break into the scoring column. A leadoff Wong single, followed by a Barnard walk led to Sedlacek sending the first pitch over the scoreboard, cutting the deficit to 5-3.

The Owls got all three of those runs back in the third on back-to-back RBI doubles and an RBI groundout.

A grand slam in the top of the fourth put the run-rule into effect for the Owls.

Wichita State escaped the run-rule in the fifth on Urban's two-run single, cutting the deficit to 12-5, but the Owls homered twice in the top of the sixth and scored five more to make it 17-5.
