Foster Announces 2025 Women’s Tennis Spring Campaign

12/11/2024 5:00:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State head women's tennis coach Colin Foster announced his squad's 2025 dual match slate on Wednesday afternoon.

The year is set to be another challenging slate for the Black and Yellow, but Coach Foster is confident his group is up to the challenge.

"This schedule is built to test us," said Foster. "Being challenged is what we play for. We're going to be challenged, but this schedule has the right balance of the teams that we need to be playing to grow and have ranking opportunities."

The Shockers are slated to face 20 opponents in the regular season with seven of those being power four opponents.

Tennis teams in the American Athletic Conference do not play a set dual match schedule, but the Shockers are still set to face six of the possible 13 conference opponents in the regular season (Memphis, Tulsa, Tulane, South Florida, UTSA, and North Texas)

Of the 20 Shocker opponents, eight were ranked in the final ITA top 75 poll of last season on June 10. (Oklahoma, Kansas, Memphis, Iowa, Princeton, South Florida, SMU, and Kansas State)

In terms of roster, Coach Foster thinks that all eight of his players will make a jump in ability compared to their individual numbers last season.

"Our staff expects everyone to make jumps in their abilities," said Foster. "Everyone on this team got a lot better this fall and they all have the opportunity to take that next step. The environment and culture this team created and embraced this fall has created a really good environment to grow and develop."

Foster anticipates his team to be deep, with contributions throughout the lineup in dual matches.

"Everyone on this team is a contributor," said Foster. "We're not going to have to rely on a small handful of players to score. I think we're going to have a team who, no matter who is in each spot, is going to be confident, capable, and give us a chance to get points."

After collecting their first win at the AAC Championship last year since 2019, Foster and Company have raised expectations for this year's group.

"We've set our goal this year as a team to be competing for a conference championship," said Foster. "We've got all the pieces in place to have a really special year and a year that has a postseason run of significance."

The full list of matches for the 2025 dual season is below with known times, dates, and locations. Home matches are indicated in bold. Conference opponents are indicated with an asterisk.
