WICHITA – Wichita State women's basketball dropped its first game of the season, 75-55, to Belmont Saturday afternoon in Charles Koch Arena.

Emily La Chapell led a balanced Bruin team to its first win of the season with 17 points as four Belmont players finished in double figures, outscoring the Shockers 47-25 in the second half.

Despite improved free throw (10-for-14, .714) and three-point (7-for-23, .304) shooting from the Shockers, Wichita State (1-1) struggled from the field, shooting 19-for-69 (.279) overall and 7-for-32 (.219) in the second half.

Belmont (1-1) took a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but Wichita State battled back in the second, holding the Bruins to just seven points in the quarter. A 12-0 run, sparked by junior
Princess Anderson, who hit three three pointers in the last four minutes of the quarter, gave the Shockers a two-point advantage heading into halftime.

The Bruins open the second half on a 12-2 run and never relinquished the lead again.

Taylor Jameson hit a pair of threes in the second half on her way to her second-straight double figure scoring game (10), but the Shockers lacked offensive production in the fourth quarter as Belmont held Wichita State to just nine points on 3-of-20 shooting in the final period. The Bruins ended the game on an 8-0 run and hit 10 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Salese Blow led the Shockers with 16 points and four assists, while junior
Bre'Yon White grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Wichita State is back in The Roundhouse next Wednesday, Nov. 13 to take on Missouri State at 6 p.m.
