Wichita State's second Serve-A-Thon featured 139 student-athletes, coaches and staff members working around the area to package meals, do landscaping, pick up trash and more in late October.
"We got our teams involved and out in the community," said Brooke Schultz, student-athlete experience coordinator. Â "They had a good time giving back."

The volunteers totaled 271 service hours with 10 organizations.

They set up for Illuminations at Botanica, The Wichita Gardens for its annual Christmas celebration. They cleaned, raked and planted at Catholic Charities Harbor House. Student-athletes helped detail vehicles for American Red Cross. The Shockers golf teams served as rules officials for the Special Olympics North American Golf Championships at Crestview Country Club.

Coaches and staff members picked up trash at Clapp Cross Country Course before the American Athletic Conference Championships. The women's golf and men's tennis teams and staff members assembled roughly 2,000 meals for Wichita Meals on Wheels.

"They were really competitive – made a game out of it to see how quickly the pack the meals and which groups could pack more," Schultz said. "That competitive streak was coming out."
