HOUSTON – The Shocker duo of
Giorgia Roselli and
Theodora Chantava's brilliant run at the 2024 AAC Individual Championships came to an end against the top-seeded doubles team in the field on Saturday morning.
After their tight quarterfinals win on Friday over East Carolina, Roselli and Chantava played an incredibly tight match against No. 1 seeded Millie-Mae Matthews and Malwina Rowinska of Florida Atlantic. The Shockers rallied back to win the second set 6-1. after dropping the opening set 6-3 to force a super tiebreak to decide the match. The break started tight, but the FAU pair used a 4-0 run in the middle of the break to pull away, winning 10-6, and taking the match 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (6).
Kristina Kudryavtseva wrapped up singles play on Saturday for the Shockers with a loss to Tulane's Leigh Van Zyl, 6-4, 7-5. Kudryavtseva trailed 5-2 in the second set but managed to fight back and win three straight games, but she was unable to complete the comeback to force a third set.
