Bowling Hosts Mid-States Championships

WICHITA, Kan. -- Fresh off a second-place finish in their inaugural NCAA tournament, the Wichita State women's bowling program stays home this weekend for the Mid-States Championships at Bowlero Northridge. The competition takes place on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, hosted by Wichita State and Newman.

The tournament is classified as an exhibition and will not count toward NCAA rankings or stats.

The Shockers will compete in a field of 30 total teams, including both varsity and JV teams from Wichita State. All 10 bowlers on the Wichita State roster will compete. The teams participating are: Avila, Baker, Barton CC, Central Methodist, Columbia College, Hastings, Iowa Central CC, Iowa Western CC, Kansas State, Kansas Wesleyan, Lindenwood, McPherson, Midland, Morningside, Newman, Oklahoma Christian, Ottawa, Peru State, Quincy, Sam Houston State, SCAD Atlanta, SCAD Savannah, Central Missouri, Kansas, Saint Mary, West Texas A&M, and William Penn.

Competition begins at 9:15 am on Saturday with six team games, followed on Sunday morning by four, four-game Baker blocks beginning at 8:15 am. From there the top eight teams as ranked by total pinfall will compete in best-of-five Baker games to determine a champion.

The Shockers have won the Mid-States Championship 30 times since the competition began in the 1974-75 season, including most recently in 2020-21. Wichita State finished fifth in last season's event.
