Four Inducted Into Hall of Fame

WICHITA, Kan.  -- Wichita State's 2024 Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame class was inducted during halftime of the Wichita State men's basketball game against SMU on Jan. 28. This year's class includes Charlie Giaudrone, Alex Harden, Taryn Torgerson and Cacy Williams. They were also honored at a dinner on Jan. 27 at the Beggs Ballroom.

The dinner featured each inductee as well as presenters Brent Kemnitz, Kelsey Jacobs, Tom McCurdy and Kristi Bredbenner.

The addition of this year's class brings the total of former coaches and student-athletes in the Hall of Fame to 160, while there are 13 at-large selections.

Here's a look at their success at Wichita State:
 
Charlie Giaudrone, Baseball (1989-92)
 
Charlie Giaudrone was a four-year starting pitcher for the Wichita State baseball program from 1989-92. He went 31-7 with a 2.69 ERA in 61 appearances with 49 starts, six complete games, 294 innings pitched with two shutouts and 195 strikeouts. He was a member of the 1989 National Championship team and was the starting and winning pitcher in the regional championship game against Michigan to advance the team to the College World Series. He was a member of four Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship teams, four NCAA Tournament teams, three College World Series teams and two MVC Tournament championship teams. He pitched a no-hitter in 1989 against Fordham and in 1992 he was named to the MVC All-Tournament team, a second team All-American, National Academic Athlete of the Year, first team all-Midwest Region, first team all-MVC, a first team Academic All-American and a second team selection in 1991. He finished his career at Wichita State second in ERA, sixth in games started, seventh in consecutive victories, eighth in winning percentage, ninth in wins and 10th in innings pitched. 

Alex Harden, Women's Basketball (2011-15)

Alex Harden was a guard/forward for the Wichita State women's basketball program from 2011-15. She played in 133 games with 1,708 points, 683 rebounds, 436 assists, 278 steals and 113 blocks, while averaging 12.8 points per game. She was named an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in 2015 and the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. She was a three-time MVC Tournament MVP, three-time first team all-MVC selection, three-time all-MVC Defensive Team selection and two-time MVC Defensive Player of the Year. She was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team in 2012 and named MVC Player of the Week six times. She is the only Shocker with more than 1,440 points, 600 rebounds, 350 assists, 100 blocks and 200 steals. She finished her career seventh in the NCAA with 3.27 steals per game, holds the single season steals record with 108 in 2014-15 and tied a single game record with 11 steals against Indiana State in 2015. She led the team to three-straight MVC regular-season and tournament titles and three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. She finished her Wichita State career first in points, second in games played, free throws made, steals, and free throw percentage, third in field goals made and assists, fourth in free throws attempted, fifth in blocks, sixth in field goals attempted, seventh in rebounds, and 11th in scoring average. She was drafted 18th overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2015 WNBA Draft.
 
Taryn Torgerson, Women's Golf (2014-18)

Taryn Torgerson was a golfer for the Wichita State women's golf program from 2014-18. She was the 2018 individual champion in the American Athletic Conference and won on a playoff hole after carding a tournament and course record 8-under par 64 in the final round. She was the 2016 individual champion in the Missouri Valley Conference and led the team to the MVC championship and NCAA Tournament. She helped the team to the 2015 MVC championship and NCAA Tournament appearance as a freshman. She was a three-time all-conference selection, two-time first team MVC Scholar-Athlete selection and two-time WGCA All-American Scholar. During her senior season, she had seven top-10 and eight top-20 finishes. During her junior season, she won two collegiate competitions and had seven top-10 finishes and eight top-20 finishes. During her sophomore season, she had five top-10 finishes and holds the school record for low 18 with a 64 and low 54 with a 211 at the AAC Championship in 2018. She finished her Wichita State career first in tournament titles, lowest career stroke average, lowest single season stroke average and lowest 54-hole stroke average.

Cacy Williams, Softball (2014-16)

Cacy Williams was a first baseman for the Wichita State softball program from 2014-16. She played in 117 career games and hit .360 with 136 runs, 182 hits, 35 doubles, 3 triples, 39 home runs, 135 RBI and 15 stolen bases. She was named the 2014 and 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and the MVC Newcomer of the Year in 2014. She was a three-time first team all-conference selection, member of the 2014 MVC all-tournament team, a three-time first team all-MVC Scholar-Athlete selection and a two-time first team all-Midwest Region selection. She led the team to the 2014 MVC regular-season title, the 2016 MVC regular-season and Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament. She holds the individual game record for RBI with eight against Iowa State in 2014 and logged one of the best seasons in school history in 2014 as she hit .424 with 16 home runs, 47 RBI, 72 hits, 14 doubles, 57 runs and an .812 slugging percentage. She finished her Wichita State career first in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, home runs, RBI, and fielding percentage, third in total bases, fourth in runs scored, sixth in putouts and seventh in doubles.
