WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team triumphed in their home opener over the Omaha Mavericks, 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Wichita.

Darragh Glavin was very happy to notch a win today.

"It was a good, gritty team win today," said Glavin. "We didn't play our best, but we battled and came away with the win."

The Shockers (2-3) break their three-match losing streak and are now 6-0 all-time against Omaha (2-3).

It was all WSU in doubles as the Shocker duo of
Alejandro Jacome and
Vanja Hodzic won 6-1 at court three to kick off the match, followed by a victory at court one by
Richey King and
Misha Kvantaliani to clinch the crucial point for the Shockers.

Hodzic would strike first in singles with a strong victory at court four, 6-2, 6
-4
.

Omaha's Mikahil Korkunov notched the first Maverick point of the afternoon with a win at No. 2 singles over Kvantaliani, 7-5, 6-4.

Kristof Minarik inked out a tight win at No. 3 to make it 3-1 and Jacome clinched at No. 1, 7-6 (7), 6-2 to secure the win for the Shockers.

Marcelo Sepulveda and
Luke Bracks fell at courts five and six to conclude the match 4-3 in favor of the Shockers.

"It's good to get a win when we weren't playing our best," said Glavin. "Glad our guys were able to pull through and get this win today."

The Shockers are back in action next weekend when they head to Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Oklahoma to battle the hometown Oklahoma Sooners on February 2 at 5:00 PM.
