Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Road weary Wichita State closed out its spring break tour with a 5-2 defeat at Tulane on Sunday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
Â
The Shockers (7-8 and listed at No. 62 in the latest ITA Division I rankings) claimed a close doubles point but dropped matches on five of the six singles courts.
Â
"Unfortunately, our energy has just been a bit too inconsistent these last few matches at a few spots," head coach
Colin Foster said. "(On Thursday) against USF it cost us the doubles point. Today we played a superb doubles point, but we just weren't ready for their initial push in singles and got on our heels early."
Â
Lingwei Kong had a hand in both Shocker points, prevailing in straight sets at No. 1 singles and teaming with
Natsumi Kurahashi to win the rubber match in the best-of-three doubles portion.
Â
"We continue to compete hard," Foster said. "We just need to recognize the unmistakable importance of playing with energy from start to finish and not having small lulls here and there."
Â
The Shockers will play home next weekend for the first time in 41 days when they take on South Dakota (Friday, 1 p.m.) and Omaha (Sunday, 10 a.m.) at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
