Shockers Pick Up Two Wins on Saturday in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – Wichita State bounced back from being run-ruled in its last outing with two run-rule victories on Saturday, defeating FDU, 10-0, and San Diego, 13-0.

Wichita State (7-3) closes out the Torero Classic on Sunday with one more game against FDU at 12 p.m. CT.

Sydney McKinney made more history on Saturday, extending her hit streak to 28. That puts her into the NCAA record book, tied for the 17th longest in NCAA history.

Alison Cooper threw the 20th no-hitter in school history in the Shockers' 13-0 run-rule of San Diego. She allowed just two baserunners via walks.

Wichita State tied a school record with three triples in the nightcap vs. San Diego.

Game 1 vs. FDU

Zoe Jones led the offensive attack with a home run, a triple and four RBI. Sami Hood hit the first home run of her career and Sydney McKinney recorded her second triple of the weekend. Addison Barnard stole a school-record tying four bases and scored three times.

Alex Aguilar threw a one-hitter in the complete game shutout. She struck out a season-high six in her second win of the season.

After a three-up, three down top of the first, McKinney didn't waste any time jumpstarting the Shocker offense in the bottom half. The second pitch was promptly smoked off the right field wall for a leadoff triple. Barnard followed with an infield single and then Lauren Lucas brought McKinney home on a sac fly. Barnard would make it 2-0 after stealing second and then coming all the way around on a wild pitch and throwing error.

In the bottom of the third, Wichita State struck with two outs. Back-to-back walks from Barnard and Lucas led to a three-run blast for Jones, making it 5-0. Following a Lauren Mills single, Hood delivered the first homer of her career over the wall in left to put the Shockers up, 7-0.

A three-run bottom of the fourth put the icing on the cake. A pair of errors kept the inning alive. The first run scored on a double steal with Barnard swiping home and Lucas taking second. Another came in on the second fielding error of the frame and then a Jones RBI triple made it 10-0.

Game 2 vs. San Diego

Sydney McKinney posted a 4-for-4 night with a home run, two RBI and three runs. Zoe Jones capped her stellar day with three more hits, including another triple, a home run and five RBI. Addison Barnard went 3-for-4 with three runs and another stolen base. She stole five bases between the two games.

Lauren Lucas snapped out of a brief slump with a pair of hits, including a triple and three RBI. Taylor Sedlacek hit her first career triple, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

As a team Wichita State pounded out a season-high 17 hits.

Alison Cooper improved to 3-1 in the circle with her no-hit night. She struck out three in 5.0 innings.

McKinney and Barnard led off the top of the first with back-to-back singles. Enter Zoe Jones. Jones sent her second three-run home run of the day over the fence in left to give the Shockers an early advantage. After a Lauren Mills single, Taylor Sedlacek ripped an RBI triple down the right field line. The fifth run of the frame came across in the next at bat when Lainee Brown beat out an infield single to score Sedlacek from third.

A four-spot in the bottom of the second gave the Shockers a 9-0 lead. McKinney started the scoring with an inside the park home run, racing around on a ball ripped to left-center. Barnard singled, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and then came home on Lucas' RBI infield single. Jones drove in Lucas on her second triple of the day and then a Mills sac fly capped the scoring.

Another crooked number put Wichita State up 12-0 in the top of the third. Lucas went down the left field line for a two-run triple and then an RBI single from Jones put the finishing touches on a three-run frame.

McKinney's fourth hit of the night came in the top of the fourth along with an RBI to give the Shockers a 13-0 lead.
