Ndungu Claims Second-Straight Conference Award

10/3/2023 1:00:00 PM

WICHITA – Wichita State's Lucy Ndungu was named the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second-straight time, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

The junior transfer from Cloud County CC finished third for the second-consecutive race, running 20:41.0 in the 6K at the Gans Creek Classic, a personal best by 2 minutes and 23 seconds.

Ndungu led the Shocker women to a third-place team finish, knocking off two Midwest region teams ranked ahead of them in the USTFCCCA week two rankings, which moved them up two spots to No. 10 on the week three list.

The St. Louis, Mo. native has placed top three in all three races this season and has run a personal best each time. Her 5K split at the Gans Creek Classic was faster than her previous 5K personal best, leading her to a huge 6K personal best.

The Shockers return to the course Friday, Oct. 13 for their final regular-season race at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
