WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State infielder
Brock Rodden was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday. It is the third such honor for Rodden this season, and his second consecutive weekly award.
Rodden put together two monster games over the weekend against Houston, recording his fourth and fifth three-hit games since April 24. On Saturday, the switch-hitting second baseman went 3-for-4, becoming the first Shocker with a multi-homer game in 2022 and the first WSU player to homer from both sides of the plate since Casey Gillaspie accomplished the feat on May 3, 2014. He scored three times and drove in three runs, adding a walk to reach base four times in five plate appearances.
Rodden followed up Saturday's performance with another big day in the series finale, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and a season-high-tying four RBI. He blasted a game-tying, two-run homer in the bottom of the first and later added a two-run double in the fifth that pulled the Shockers back within one. The outburst capped a impressive stretch for Rodden, who has homered seven times in the last 12 games, driving in 15 runs in the process.
The Seminole State transfer has now reached base in 17 consecutive games, improving his slash line .324/.416/.628, which leads the team in all three categories. He has 11 doubles, 14 home runs and 37 RBI on the season, pacing the conference with 118 total bases.
Rodden and the Shockers return to action on Friday night, welcoming in Tulane for the final home series of the season. First pitch of the series opener is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
