PITCHERS BEWARE
Wichita State obliterated the school record for home runs in a single season in 2021. The Shockers crushed 103 - a mark that ranked second nationally behind only the defending National Champion, Oklahoma Sooners. Wichita State graduated four seniors in the every day lineup from that record-breaking squad, including 44 of the team's 103 home runs. It only took 42 games for the 2022 team to match that number of 103. Wichita State has since set a new single season mark at 118 and counting.
DOUBLE DIGIT HOMERS
Wichita State is one of only three teams, joining Oklahoma and Georgia, in the country that have at least six players with 10 or more home runs this season.
Addison Barnard (32),
Zoe Jones (15),
Lauren Mills (15),
Neleigh Herring (14),
Sydney McKinney (13) and
Lauren Lucas (10) all have double digit homers.
ON THE FIELD, IN THE CLASSROOM
Addison Barnard was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on May 12. This is the first CoSIDA academic honor for Barnard, becoming the first Shocker to earn All-District honors since
Madison Perrigan in 2020. The 2022 American Player of the Year is majoring in health science and has a 3.73 cumulative GPA. The 2022 Academic All-District Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Wichita State is in District 7, which includes NCAA Division I schools in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. Barnard joins South Florida's Georgina Corrick as the only two student-athletes from the American Athletic Conference.
