4/13/2022 4:25:00 PM

WICHITA – The Wichita State men's tennis team wraps up its regular season with two home matches at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. The Shockers face No. 49 Tulsa Thursday at 1 p.m. and No. 17 Middle Tennessee St. Saturday at 1 p.m.

Saturday's match will be preceded by a free USTA Campus Kids' Day, where kids can come try tennis in a fun environment. During the Shockers' match, free beer and seltzers will be served to attendees.

Tulsa (11-9) is on a five-match losing streak, most recently dropping a close one to No. 51 South Florida, which also handed the Shockers' (12-11) their most recent loss. The Hurricane are led by Kody Pearson, who is ranked 87th in singles in the national ITA rankings with an 11-4 duals record at court one. Pearson and doubles partner Connor DiMarco are 7-3 at No. 1 doubles, ranking 73rd in the national rankings.

Middle Tennessee St. (23-3) will be the highest-ranked opponent the Shockers will face this season, bringing three nationally-ranked singles players and the No. 54 doubles pair of Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Francisco Rocha to the Saturday match. The Blue Raiders are on a 17-match winning streak, most notably defeat two top-25 teams, then No. 19 Arizona and then No. 24 Auburn in February. They will face Tulsa on Friday in Wichita prior to playing the Shockers on Saturday.

The Shockers have four singles players with double digits in the win column. Luka Mrsic has provided consistency at No. 3 and No. 4, only dropping three matches at those courts. Nicolas Acevedo is 12-6 in duals at the top two courts, recording a 7-3 record at No. 1. Kristof Minarik remains undefeated at courts two and three and is 13-6 overall, and Alex Richards has played across courts 4-6, giving the Shockers five of their eleven wins at No. 5.

These are the final two matches before the Shockers travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the American Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Friday, April 22.
