WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State right-handed pitcher
Cameron Bye has been named American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. It's the second consecutive Pitcher of the Week award for Wichita State after
Jace Kaminska was honored last week for his performance against Houston.
Bye fashioned the best outing of his career on Sunday against East Carolina, blanking the Pirates over a career-best 8.0 innings to pick up the win in a 5-0 Wichita State victory. The sophomore matched a personal best with eight strikeouts, including fanning the side in the fifth, all while allowing just three hits and three walks. Only one East Carolina runner reached third base on the afternoon.
Since moving into the starting rotation on March 8, Bye has pitched the Shockers to five wins in six starts, allowing just a single earned run in his start against Houston on April 3.
The performance continued Bye's near-perfect start to the 2022 season, as the righty lowered his ERA to a microscopic 0.24 over 37.0 innings. That earned run average ranks second nationally behind UCF's Connor Staine. Bye has allowed just 15 hits for an opponent batting average of .122, and only two extra-base hits. He has not given up more than three hits in any game this season, an average of 3.65 hits per nine innings that is third-best in the country.

The Shockers are next in action on the road against Oklahoma State on Tuesday night. First pitch from O'Brate Stadium is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
