The Wichita State tennis team finished a weekend Texas tour with a 4-0 dual loss to UT Arlington on Sunday afternoon.
 
The host Mavericks (11-1) won a close doubles point and put three quick singles wins on the board to clinch the match. Three other singles contests went unfinished, including No. 1 singles where WSU's LingWei Kong held a second-set lead.
 
"The doubles points were critical this weekend," head coach Colin Foster said. "We've had a good doubles tradition over the years, but we have some things to work on. We'll address those shortcomings and try to turn around some of these results."
 
Aside from a chilly match at Oral Roberts two weeks ago, this weekend marked the first extended outdoor action of the spring season for WSU (6-8).
 
"UTA has some players in the bottom half who will make you play a hundred balls," Foster noted. "Now that we're outdoors, where it's a little harder to finish points, we've got to do a better job building complete points and finishing in the mid-court and at the net. We got frustrated at a couple spots in that aspect.
 
"On the whole, the fight is there, and it's encouraging to know that we've got a group that will work to get better and isn't satisfied with these recent results."
 
Wichita State returns home next Saturday for a recently-added match with Central Arkansas at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. Start time has yet to be determined.
