WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State senior guard
Seraphine Bastin has been named the American Athletic Conference Ambassador Award winner, it was announced Sunday afternoon.
The Ambassador Award is awarded to the student-athlete who reflects and celebrates the ideals of sportsmanship on and off the court. Emphasis on ethical behavior, fair play and integrity and community service are considered when selecting the winner of the Ambassador Award.
Â
"Seraphine has proven all these qualities in her tenure at Wichita State," head coach Keith Adams said. "She brings great work ethic, integrity and high character to the community, the classroom and the court. Her representation of our program has always been first class. She has touched many lives at our university and in our community."
This is the first individual regular season award for a Wichita State student-athlete since joining the American in 2017-18.
A native of Dinant, Belgium, Bastin is very involved within her local church, the Metropolitan Baptist Church. She volunteers at the church before and after service, sings and plays guitar in the choir and has been someone that members enjoy spending time with. Bastin has also been found working in the Wichita State University Bookstore where she was praised for her reliability, willingness to help anyone and a delight to work with.
Earlier this season Bastin helped welcome local children back to school on their first day of the year. Bastin and her teammates also "adopted" a local family this past Christmas where they bought and wrapped presents for the family. She is currently working on a community service project to help children in the Republic of Congo.
Bastin is a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team member and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester at Wichita State. She has a cumulative GPA of 3.671 and is majoring in management.
Bastin has been an incredible teammate, student and ambassador for Wichita State women's basketball during her four years.
On the court, Bastin averages 7.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game this season for Wichita State. She leads the team in assists and ranks second in rebounds and third in steals. Her 81.6 percent shooting from the free throw line leads the American Athletic Conference.
