Shockers Pick up Road Win in Arlington

Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas – The Wichita State men's tennis team defeated UT Arlington 4-1 on the road Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.
 
Doubles matches were halted early due to a rain delay, and the Shockers fell behind early with a loss at court three, but Nicolas Acevedo and Jackie Lin conquered their No. 2 doubles opponents with a 6-4 win to tie it up. At court one, Alex Richards and Ray Lo pulled out a 7-6 tiebreaker win to clinch the doubles point for the Shockers.
 
UTA tied the match at 1-1 with a swift win at No. 2 singles, but Acevedo put the Shockers back in front with a 6-1, 6-4 win at court one to improve to 9-4 (5-3 at No. 1) in singles. Richards wrapped up his match at No. 5 not long after, winning 6-4, 6-1 to increase Wichita State's lead to 3-1. Lo clinched the match for the Shockers with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at court four.
 
Lin was up 7-5, 4-3 when play was stopped, and Orel Ovil had just tied up his second set at 5-5 after dropping the first one 4-6.
 
The Shockers improve to 8-6 heading into the ASU Tournament March 11-13 in Tempe, Arizona.
