No. 56 K-State Trips Up Shockers

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Playing for a third-straight match with just five active players, the Wichita State women's tennis team fell 6-1 at No. 56 Kansas State, Sunday afternoon at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

"I'm really proud of them all for fighting despite the difficult situation we're in," WSU head coach Colin Foster said. "K-State has a very solid team and we made them play well late in sets, which they did.

With the Shockers unable to field a complete lineup, K-State (8-8) claimed easy points in doubles and at No. 6 singles. The Wildcats also won four of the five singles battles in straight sets.

WSU (6-11) scored its lone point at No. 4 singles where Harriet Hamilton split her first two sets before winning a marathon super-tiebreaker, 17-15.

"Harriet played really well," Foster said. "The end was a long back-and-forth tiebreak, with both players having multiple match points. I'm happy for her she was able to pull that out."

The Shockers are back in action Friday, Apr. 1 against Houston at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
