Shockers Crush School Record Eight Home Runs in Rout of SEMO

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Wichita State belted a single-game school record eight home runs in a 14-0 run-rule of Southeast Missouri Sunday night at Arrocha Ballpark.

Wichita State (12-7) saw eight different Shockers record a hit and seven of them left the yard. The new single game record for home runs bested the previous record of seven set back in 2014 vs. Iowa State.

Sydney McKinney extended her hit streak to 14 with a 2-for-3 night, including a double and home run. Lauren Mills smashed two home runs and drove in five runs, making it two straight games with a home run. It was her second career multi-home run game.

Addison Barnard scored three runs to go with a single, home run and stolen base. Neleigh Herring was a perfect 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI.

Zoe Jones, Lainee Brown and Wylie Glover rounded out the home run hitters on the night. Brown's home run marked the first of her career, while Glover's was her first of the season.

Freshman Alison Cooper tossed her second career complete game shutout. She gave up just five hits, walking none and striking out five in 5.0 innings.

The Shockers didn't waste any time hanging a crooked number on the scoreboard. Wichita State scored five runs in the bottom of the first on a Herring two-run double and Mills' three-run home run.

The long ball carried over to the second inning with five more runs on four home runs. McKinney and Barnard went back-to-back with solo bombs and then two batters later Herring left the yard with another solo shot. Following a Lauren Lucas double, Mills left the park for a second time, this time a two-run homer, making it 10-0.

Lainee Brown and Wylie Glover led off the bottom of the third with back-to-back home runs and then a Zoe Jones two-run blast capped a four-run inning to put the Shockers up 14-0.
