WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team dropped a dual match to visiting Tulsa, 4-0, Wednesday afternoon on the Wichita Country Club indoor courts.
The Golden Hurricane (7-1) pulled away late to win the doubles points and swept singles matches at each of the top-3 spots to bring the dual to a close.
It was Tulsa's first win in Wichita since 1999.
WSU (5-4) lost its first home match of the season after a 3-0 start.
Jessie Zheng had the best showing on the WSU side. She and partner
Clara Whitaker led 5-3 at No. 3 doubles but had to abandon their match after Tulsa finished off the doubles point.
Likewise, Zheng was just beginning her third set at No. 4 singles when the visitors clinched their fourth-and-final point.
With only four available courts, matches at Nos. 5 and 6 singles were just underway when play was halted.
The Shockers are on the road this weekend with matches at Oral Roberts (2 p.m., Friday) and Arkansas (10 a.m., Saturday).
