11/27/2022 5:06:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State has accepted a bid to participate in the 2022 National Invitational Volleyball Championship, returning to postseason play for the first time since the 2018 season.

Wichita State (18-12, 13-6) will host the first and second rounds at Charles Koch Arena, opening play on Sunday, December 4 against Grand Canyon (17-10) at 3:30 pm. On the other side of the pod, Drake (26-7) and Weber State (17-11) will play at 1:00 pm Sunday, with the two winners meeting at 5:30 pm on Monday.

Tickets for the opening round matches can be purchased HERE. Wichita State students receive free admission to the first two rounds.

The NIVC field is comprised 32 teams, including both at-large teams and teams selected as automatic qualifiers by virtue of being the highest-finisher in its conference's regular-season standings that did not go to the NCAA Tournament.

All matches, including the semifinals and championship, are hosted by participating schools. The Shockers are one of eight host schools for Rounds 1 and 2, joining Portland State, UTRGV, Wake Forest, Boston College, Ohio, Liberty, and Troy. Every round is single elimination.

Wichita State enters the postseason winners of seven of their last eight matches, finishing fourth in the American Athletic Conference standings. The Shockers have one prior NIVC appearance in program history, a 2018 trip in which WSU defeated Central Arkansas in five sets before falling to host North Texas in four.
