WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State baseball program will host Oklahoma State at Riverfront Stadium on Tuesday, April 26, marking the second consecutive season the Shockers will play at the downtown ballpark.
Â
First pitch of the non-conference matchup is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
Â
Wichita State opened the state-of-the-art facility last season on April 10, 2021 with a 10-1 win over Houston, the first game at the home of the Wichita Wind Surge. The Wind Surge completed their inaugural season as Double-A affiliates of the Minnesota Twins later that summer.
Â
"Last season's game at Riverfront Stadium was such a success, we're excited not only for the opportunity to play there again but to do so against a quality opponent like Oklahoma State," Wichita State Head Coach
Eric Wedge said. "The Wind Surge do a tremendous job maintaining their beautiful facility and continuing to grow Wichita as a baseball city. Games like this are a great way to showcase both our program and support for the game in our community."
Wichita State baseball season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to buy tickets, with a pre-sale beginning on Thursday, January 20 at 10:00 am. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, January 22.
Â
"The Wind Surge organization is thrilled to once again host Wichita State at the ballpark," Wind Surge CEO
Jordan Kobritz said. "The match-up with a team from a power-five conference and a neighboring state will add to the excitement for the many Shocker fans in our area."Â
Â
Wichita State played regularly downtown at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, and hold an overall record of 48-19 in downtown Wichita. Prior to last season, the last time WSU played downtown was March 21, 2000, a 6-5 win over Missouri.
Â
The Shockers open the season on February 18 at Louisiana Tech, with the home opener at Eck Stadium scheduled for March 8 vs. Oral Roberts.
