GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wichita State University junior third baseman
Paxton Wallace has been named to the ABCA/Rawlings 2021 NCAA Division I Gold Glove team, it was announced Wednesday, June 23, by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Â
Wallace marks Wichita State baseball's second-ever ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winner. Former Shocker Tyler Weber won a Gold Glove as a catcher for WSU in 2007, the first year of the ABCA Gold Glove awards program.
Â
A native of Greenbrier, Ark., Wallace had a stellar season in the hot corner, committing just six errors on 160 chances for a .963 fielding percentage. In 54 games played, he tallied 41 putouts and 113 assists.
Â
An American Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team honoree at third, Wallace also excelled at the plate in 2021, posting a .322 batting average with 67 hits, 45 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, a team-best 49 RBI, 21 walks and five stolen bases.
Â
Wichita State baseball posted a 31-23 overall record and finished third in the American Athletic Conference with an 18-13 mark in 2021. The third-place finish and 18 conference victories are both program records since WSU joined the AAC prior to the 2018 season.
