AAC Road Trip Sees Shockers Face Three Ranked Opponents

WICHITA, Kan. - No. 29 Wichita State men's tennis has its biggest road trip of the season as they travel south to face three fellow AAC teams.
 
On Friday, the team heads to New Orleans to face No. 24/28 Tulane at 1:00 p.m., at the City Park Tennis Center. The Shockers then travel to Florida to face No. 39/37 USF on April 11 at noon central at the Varsity Tennis Center and No. 9/10 UCF on April 12 at 10:00 a.m., CT, at the USTA National Campus.
 
Shocker Notables
  • The senior duo of Marius Frosa and Murkel Dellien came in at No. 72 in the ITA Doubles Rankings. This is their 14th overall appearance in the rankings. The duo is 8-3 on the season and 5-0 at home.
  • The Shockers came in at No. 29 in the latest ITA Team Rankings and No. 32 in the coaches' poll. Their wins include knocking off No. 22 Memphis, No. 28 Pepperdine, No. 45 Denver, and SMU twice.
  • Five Shockers have ten singles wins on the season: Nicolas Acevedo, Murkel Dellien, Marius Frosa, Ray Lo, and Orel Ovil.
  • Murkel Dellien is on fire right now, having won nine singles matches in a row. Four of them have come at the top spot and two of them were versus ranked opponents.
  • The Shockers are unbeaten at home in nine tries.
 
Scouting the Competition
 
#24/28 Tulane (11-6)
  • The Green Wave split their last two games, beating USF, 4-3, but falling to UCF, 5-2.
  • Tulane have two players with an 11-4 record, Luis Erlenbusch and Hamish Stewart. Erlenbusch has played mostly at three and Stewart has all of his matches at the top
  • Stewart is ranked at No. 29 and the duo of Stewart and Ewan Moore is ranked No. 45.
  • The Shockers are 0-3 versus Tulane and last played in 2004
 
#39/37 USF (11-8)
  • The Bulls have lost their last four, all to ranked opponents. The last one came courtesy of a 4-3 loss to rival UCF.
  • Jakub Wojcik leads USF in wins with 13, all at No. 2. Chase Ferguson holds down the No. 1 spot, but is 7-9 on the year
  • Two singles players are ranked (No. 58 Ferguson and No. 72 Wojcik) and the duo of Wojcik and Rithvik Bollipalli are No. 24.
  • The Shockers lost their only matchup versus the Bulls in 2018.
 
#9/10 UCF (15-3)
  • The Golden Knights have won seven in a row, with their last win coming against Tulane.
  • Gabriel Decamps is 16-1 on the season at No. 1 and two other players have 13 wins.
  • Decamps is No. 4 in the rankings and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi slid in at No. 124. They also have two ranked doubles pairs, No. 26 Decamps and Trey Hildebrand and No. 29 Hildebrand and Bogdan Pavel.
  • The Shockers lost their only match versus UCF in 2019.
