NEW ORLEANS -- No. 28 Wichita State saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end after dropping a doubleheader at Tulane Friday, April 16, at Greer Field and Turchin Stadium, falling 6-3 and 3-2.

The Shockers (19-11, 7-3 American) and Green Wave (16-13, 5-1 American) are scheduled to play game three of the four-game series Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m.

In Wichita State's 6-3Â loss in the opener,
Corrigan Bartlett and
Chuck Ingram each had a pair of hits, including a double for Ingram, while
Jack Sigrist added a triple, pacing WSU at the plate.

Preston Snavely (3-2) suffered the setback on the mound after allowing six runs – four earned – on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 4 2/3 innings.

The Shockers led 3-1 before Tulane scored five in the bottom of the fifth to gain a 6-3 lead.

An RBI ground-out, RBI single and RBI double scored the opening three runs of the inning for the Green Wave, before a passed ball and error allowed Tulane to add two more to the runs column.

Frankie Niemann and Chase Engelhard both had two hits, including a pair of doubles, pacing the Green Wave offensively.

Tulane starter Braden Olthoff (3-1) earned the win after giving up three runs – two earned – on four hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. Clifton Slagel secured his first save of 2021 after throwing three scoreless innings in relief.

In WSU's 3-2 setback in the nightcap,
Ross Cadena went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, leading the Shockers in the batter's box.

Liam Eddy (3-5) took the loss after surrendering three runs – one earned – on four hits with seven strikeouts and a walk in seven innings.

Tulane scored a run in the first on an RBI single before plating two unearned runs in the second on a Wichita State error to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

The Shockers plated a run in the fourth after Cadena scored when Ingram avoided being tagged out on a pickoff attempt at second base, trimming the Green Wave lead to 3-1, before cutting the deficit to 3-2 with a run in the sixth on Ingram's sacrifice fly that drove in Cadena.

WSU had the tying run on second with two outs in the top of the ninth after
David VanVooren smacked a single through the left side and stole second, but a strikeout prevented him from crossing the plate, sealing the victory for Tulane.

Bennett Lee went 2-for-3 and Collin Burns posted a double, leading the Green Wave at the plate.

Tulane starter Jack Aldrich (3-1) picked up the win after giving up two runs – one earned – on five hits with six Ks and two walks in six innings of work. Keagan Gillies compiled his first save of the season after throwing three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
