Shockers Drop Season Finale to Houston

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State dropped its season finale on senior day to first-place Houston 3-0. The Cougars won by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-18.
 
Nicole Anderson led the Shockers with nine kills and 11 digs, while Natalie Foster added eight kills and three blocks. McKayla Wuensch had 19 assists and eight digs, while Morgan Weber had a team-high 18 digs.
 
The Shockers raced out to a 5-2 lead in the first set, but the Cougars used a 5-1 run to take a 7-6 lead. The two teams traded points until UH reeled off five straight points to go in front 15-11. The Shockers pulled within 19-17 on a kill by Emma Wright, but the Cougars answered with four-straight to push the lead to 23-17. WSU used kills from Natalie Foster and Nicole Anderson to cut the lead to 23-20, but the Cougars went on to win the set 25-21.
 
UH jumped out to an 11-4 and 15-6 advantage in the second set before the Shockers fought back. WSU used a 9-3 run to cut the lead to 18-15. With the Cougars up 21-16, the Shockers scored five of the next six points to pull within 22-21. A Foster kill cut the lead to 23-22, but UH scored two of the final three points for the 25-23 win.
 
The Cougars used a 6-0 run to go in front 7-4 in the third set. The Shockers scored three of the next four points to cut the lead to 8-7. A kill by Marriah Buss put WSU in front 12-11 and back-to-back kills from Wright pushed the lead to 15-13. After that it was all Houston. UH used a 9-1 run to break the set open and take a 22-16 lead. The Cougars went on to win the set 25-18.
