Shockers Host Three for a Long Weekend

WICHITA, Kan. - The 34th ranked Wichita State men's tennis team has a long spell at home this weekend, hosting Creighton on Friday at 1:00 p.m., No. 45 Denver on Saturday at noon, and UT Arlington on Monday at noon, all at the Coleman Tennis Complex.
 
Shocker Notables
  • The senior duo of Marius Frosa and Murkel Dellien came in at No. 32 in the ITA Preseason Doubles Rankings. The long-delayed updates of the rankings saw the pair drop out of the computer rankings. The duo is 4-3 on the season.
  • The Shockers came in at No. 34 in the latest ITA team rankings. Their wins include knocking off No. 22 Memphis, SMU, and Utah.
  • Frosa paces the Shockers in singles wins with eight. Nicolas Acevedo, Ray Lo, Luka Mrsic, and Orel Ovil all have seven wins.
  • Orel Ovil and Luka Mrsic have been paired together for the past three matches, winning all three.
 
Scouting the Competition
 
Creighton (5-4)
  • The Blue Jays lost to Drake their last time out and lost to a similar opponent in Omaha earlier in the year, 5-2.
  • Creighton has two players with five wins on the year, Stratton Brown and Joe Hoff. The duo of Jose Oscar Diaz/Matthew Lanahan have seven wins on the season.
  • The Shockers have a perfect 29-0 record against the Blue Jays. They last competed a year ago, a 5-1 Shocker win.
 
Denver (8-2)
  • The Pioneers are riding an 8-match win streak heading into the matchup. They have only lost to highly ranked TCU and Wake Forest.
  • Peter Sallay is on a six-match win streak at No. 4 and the duo of James Davis/Matt Summers has a team-best 6-3 mark in doubles.
  • The teams met earlier this season, a 6-1 Denver win.
 
UT Arlington (6-5)
  • The Mavericks are on a five-match roll. They will face Rice in Houston before heading up to Wichita.
  • Alan Sau Franco leads the team with six wins and the duo of Miguel Cabrera/Angel Diaz is 6-1 on the season.
  • The all-time record is 12-7 in favor of WSU. The teams met last season in a 4-2 Shocker win.
 
Up Next
The Shockers have two more home matches next weekend. First, they face No. 44 SMU on April 2 at 1:00 p.m. and then they face No. 27 Pepperdine at a TBD time at the Coleman Tennis Complex.
