DELAND, Fla. – The Wichita State University baseball team fell to the FIU Panthers, 9-2, Sunday, March 21, at Melching Field on the Stetson University campus.

Wichita State (8-8) is scheduled to return home to Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, for a midweek game against Kansas State Tuesday, March 23, at 6 p.m.

Junior infielder
Paxton Wallace went 2-for-4, while
Ross Cadena tripled and
Seth Stroh drove in a run, leading the Shockers for the game.

Freshman right-hander
Josh Hansell (1-2) suffered the loss on the mound for WSU after giving up six runs – five earned – on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Juan Teixeira went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, Derek Cartaya had three hits, and Alec Sanchez and Seth Cannaday doubled, pacing FIU (8-8).

Panther left-hander Garrett Rukes (2-1) picked up the win on the rubber after allowing two runs – one earned – on six hits with five Ks and a pair of walks in 6 2/3 innings of work.
