SCENE SETTER: The Wichita State baseball team (7-5) is scheduled to play the FIU Panthers (6-8) and Stetson Hatters (12-6) in DeLand, Fla., March 19-21 at Stetson's Melching Field at Conrad Park. The Shockers will face FIU at 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET) before taking on the host Hatters at 5:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. ET) Friday, March 19, prior to facing the Hatters in a single game at 5:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. ET) Saturday, March 20, and closing out their time in DeLand with a 10:30 a.m. CT (11:30 a.m. ET) contest vs. FIU Sunday, March 21.

SHOCKER BASEBALL ON THE RADIO: KFH 97.5 FM/1240 AM will air all four games in DeLand, Fla. Former WSU standout pitcher (1991-94), and Pizza Hut Shockers Sports Hall of Famer Shane Dennis and "The Voice of the Shockers" and Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Famer Mike Kennedy will split play-by-play duties until the conclusion of the Wichita State men's basketball season. WEEKLY HONORS: Redshirt sophomore right-handed reliever Ryan Stuempfig was selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after throwing three scoreless inning in relief and earning the win on the mound in the Shockers' 10-9 win at then No. 13-ranked Arizona March 12. Stuempfig allowed just two hits while strikeout out two and walking one on 51 total pitches. On the season, Stuempfig is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He has allowed no earned runs on five hits with six Ks and five walks in 9 2/3 innings.

CLOSING THE DOOR: Sophomore right-hander Aaron Haase leads Wichita State with three saves in five appearances in 2021. Haase has a 3.86 ERA and has allowed three earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and zero walks in seven innings.

NOTABLE STREAKS: On-Base: Corrigan Bartlett is on a team-high 12-game reached base streak, while Couper Cornblum has reached safely in his last seven games and Jack Sigrist has reached in six straight contests ... Hitting: Bartlett is on a team-high 12-game hitting streak, and Sigrist has at least one hit in his last six games.

GOING FOR THREE: Through 12 games, Wichita State leads The American and ranks fifth in the country in triples with seven. Couper Cornblum leads the team and is 17th nationally with two triples, while Ross Cadena, Chuck Ingram, Jack Sigrist, Seth Stroh and Paxton Wallace each have one triple.

DON'T RUN ON ROSS: Junior catcher Ross Cadena has already thrown out three runners attempting to steal through 12 games in 2021. Last season, Cadena threw out five runners in 15 games. He has been named to the 2021 Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Award watch list.

GOING BACK-TO-BACK: Junior infielder Garrett Kocis and senior outfielder Corrigan Bartlett hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning of Wichita State's game against SIUE Feb. 27. It was the first time the Shockers went back-to-back since March 3, 2018 when Greyson Jenista and Alec Bohm hit back-to-back homers in the third inning vs. Nebraska.

PRESEASON All-CONFERENCE HONORS: Freshman outfielder Couper Cornblum and junior right-hander Liam Eddy were both named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team. Cornblum, a native of Woodway, Texas, led the Shockers at the plate in 2020 with a .354 average, while Eddy, who hails from Brighton, Colo., paced WSU on the rubber with a 1.73 ERA in 26 innings pitched.

CORNBLUM, EDDY HONORED BY D1BASEBALL.COM: Couper Cornblum and Liam Eddy were both listed on D1Baseball.com's Preseason Power Rankings for 2021. Cornblum was 76th on the Top-100 Outfielders list while Eddy was 87th on the Top-150 Starting Pitchers list.

DOWNTOWN BASEBALL: On April 10, Wichita State will open Riverfront Stadium in downtown Wichita with a conference match-up against Houston. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. It will be the first game in the new, state-of-the-art stadium that was completed in March 2020. The Wichita Wind Surge, then a Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, were scheduled to open play in spring 2020, but the minor league season was canceled due to COVID-19. The Wind Surge, now a Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, will open at home on May 11, 2021.

ON DECK: The Shockers return home to Eck Stadium to host Kansas State in a midweek game Tuesday, March 23, at 6 p.m. before welcoming the Omaha Mavericks to Wichita for a three-game series March 26-28.
