SCENE SETTER: Wichita State baseball (6-3) is scheduled to travel to Tucson, Ariz., for a three-game series against the 13th-ranked Arizona Wildcats (10-2) March 11-13 at Hi Corbett Field. All three games will start at 7 p.m. CT (6 p.m. MT) Thursday, March 11, Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13. While in Tucson, the Shockers are also slated to take on the Air Force Falcons (4-5) in a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. CT (noon MT).

CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF: Garrett Kocis had a blistering week at the plate in the Shockers' shutout win at Oral Roberts March 2 and series sweep of Dixie State (Utah) March 5-7. Kocis launched five home runs, including a grand slam, two three-run homers and a pair of solo shots, and drove in a team-best 13 runs in 16 at bats and four games. He went deep twice in back-to-back games March 6-7 against Dixie State. Kocis was named one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's National Players of the Week and was also selected to The American Weekly Honor Roll for his performance during the week. He currently ranks second in NCAA Division I baseball in homers on the season with seven.
HANSELL SHINES IN DEBUT: In his first collegiate start and appearance on the mound Tuesday, March 2, in WSU's 3-0 win at Oral Roberts, freshman right-hander
Josh Hansell shined, tossing five scoreless innings of one-hit baseball with seven strikeouts and only two walks, earning his first victory in a Shocker uniform. He was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for his performance on the rubber.
DON'T RUN ON ROSS: Junior catcher
Ross Cadena has already thrown out three runners attempting to steal through nine games in 2021. Last season, Cadena threw out five runners in 15 games. He has been named to the 2021 Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Award watch list.
HEADING FOR THIRD: Couper Cornblum became the first Shocker since Sam Hilliard in 2015 to hit two triples in a game in WSU's 15-3 win over Dixie State (Utah) March 6. Cornblum belted a pair of triples down the left field line in the first and third innings.

Liam Eddy were both named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team. Cornblum, a native of Woodway, Texas, led the Shockers at the plate in 2020 with a .354 average, while Eddy, who hails from Brighton, Colo., paced WSU on the rubber with a 1.73 ERA in 26 innings pitched.
CORNBLUM, EDDY HONORED BY D1BASEBALL.COM: Couper Cornblum and
Liam Eddy were both listed on D1Baseball.com's Preseason Power Rankings for 2021. Cornblum was 76th on the Top-100 Outfielders list while Eddy was 87th on the Top-150 Starting Pitchers list.
