Shockers Have Two Matches on Chilly Weekend

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State women's tennis looks to end its three-match losing streak when it hosts Drake tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., at the Wichita Country Club and then heads to Lawrence to face Kansas on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
 
Shocker Notables
  • The senior duo of Marta Bellucco and Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva came in at No. 23 in the ITA Preseason Doubles Rankings. This is their fourth straight appearance in the rankings and highest appearance yet. They are currently 2-2 on the season.
  • Freshman Jie Xin Zheng leads the Shockers in singles wins with a 3-2 record at No. 4 and 5. She beat Arkansas' Lauren Alter last week for the Shockers' only point.
 
Scouting the Competition
 
Drake (1-1)
  • The Bulldogs most recently picked up a win over South Dakota, 4-3.
  • Drake has won both of its doubles points this season.
  • Before coming to Wichita, they stop in Manhattan to face Kansas State on Friday.
  • The former MVC rivals last met in 2019 and the Shockers won with a sweep. The all-time record is 29-22 and Coach Foster is 11-0 against the Bulldogs. The Shockers have won the last 16 meetings.
 
Kansas (1-2)
  • The Jayhawks lost their home-opener to Denver, 5-2, on Friday.
  • Kansas claim's the No. 49 doubles pair in the nation with the duo of Malkia Ngounoue/Roxana Manu.
  • The teams faced each other last year and Kansas took the win, 6-1. The all-time record between the in-state foes is 11-20 and Coach Foster is 3-4 against the Jayhawks.
 
Up Next
The Shockers travel to Kansas State on Feb. 19th to take on the Wildcats at 1:00 p.m., at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
