WICHITA, Kan. - Over the weekend the cheer and dance teams hosted tryouts to finalize their rosters for the 2020-2021 seasons.
Head cheer coach
Kevin Keith, along with assistant coaches, guided candidates from across the country through an online tryout, a first due to the coronavirus stay-at-home mandates. The skill level of all participants was very high, as was their character and academic success. After watching and evaluating all the videos it was decided to hold a second round of tryouts at a later date to meet and evaluate a select group in person to see tumbling and fight song work.
The dance team hosted a tryout in person and had one of the most talented groups of athletes that has ever been seen with Shocker Dance. Over the course of two days, ladies from around the country learned two routines, a sideline dance, a cheer and three separate technique combos to perform in front of a panel of community members, alumni and coaches.
Both teams are excited to begin the new year and are ready to face challenges that may occur within the year.
