Four Match Road Swing for Shockers Begins at Mizzou

WICHITA, Kan. - The Shockers are looking to break a recent losing skid this weekend when they face Missouri on Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. and Old Dominion on Feb. 8 at 12 p.m. at the Mizzou Tennis Complex in Columbia, Mo.
 
Shocker Notables
  • Wichita State enters the weekend 1-4 on the year with one loss being against No. 16 Oklahoma State and the other to a Kansas team that is receiving votes in the ITA Team Rankings.
  • The Shockers only listing in the new ITA rankings are the doubles pair of No. 54 Marta Bellucco and Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva.
 
Scouting the Competition
 
Missouri
  • The Tigers are 4-1 and just had their win streak ended after falling to Kansas State. In Manhattan, Kan. on Feb. 2
  • Mizzou welcomes a pair to the new ITA rankings in the form of No. 58 Gabrielle Golden and Serena Nash. Freshman Elys Ventura enters the match of a five-match win streak and a 6-1 mark overall.
 
Old Dominion
  • The Monarchs are 6-1 with their only loss being to No. 2 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. In this run they have picked up wins over SEC foe LSU and fellow AAC member Temple.
  • Yulia Starodubtseva was neamed the C-USA Athlete of the Week last week after going 3-0.
  • ODU has two players in the new ITA singles rankings and a pair in the doubles rankings.  Holly Hutchinson checks in at No. 33 and Yulia Starodubtseva is at No. 107. Their doubles tandem of Starodubtseva and Alesya Yakubovich is No. 10 nationally.
