Cal Poly Gallops Past Shockers in Five

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif – The Wichita State University volleyball team fell at Cal Poly, 3-2, on Friday, Sept. 6, in the ShareSLO Mustang Challenge inside the Mott Athletics Center. The set scores were 21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 21-25 and 11-15.
 
Wichita State (2-3) is scheduled to wrap up competition in the ShareSLO Mustang Challenge with a 2 p.m. CT (noon PT) match vs. North Texas Saturday, Sept. 7.
 
Sophomore Megan Taflinger hit a career-best .543 with a match-high 19 kills on 35 attempts and no errors, and tied her career-high with a pair of solo blocks, while freshmen Nicole Anderson (17 kills, team-high 15 digs) and Sina Uluave (14 kills, 12 digs) both compiled double-doubles. It was Anderson's second double-double of her career and Uluave's first.
 
Junior McKayla Wuensch added a team-best 32 assists to go along with 11 digs for her first double-double as a Shocker, and fellow junior Emma Wright along with freshman Sophia Rohling each had a team-high five blocks, with Wright matching her career-best with a pair of solo stops.
 
The Shockers outhit the Mustangs (2-3) in the contest, .321 to .229, and had a 12-7 advantage in blocks, but committed 17 service errors, compared to 10 for Cal Poly. The Mustangs also compiled a 13-6 advantage in service aces for the contest.
 
Maia Dvoracek tallied 17 kills and a match-best eight service aces, while Avalon DeNecochea posted a match-high 43 assists, pacing Cal Poly.
