Shockers Drop Game to Houston Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State baseball team dropped the second game of a three-game series against the University of Houston Cougars, 7-3, on Saturday, April 13, at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field.

The Shockers (18-17, 3-5 American) and Cougars (20-15, 5-6 American) are scheduled to play the third and final game of the series at noon Sunday, April 14th.

Sophomore catcher Ross Cadena and freshman left-fielder Jack Sigrist led the Shockers at the plate, with both going 2-for-4 and driving in a run, while freshman right-fielder David VanVooren also picked up an RBI on the day.

Sophomore right-hander Liam Eddy (3-4) suffered the loss on the mound for Wichita State after allowing three earned runs on 10 hits with one walk and two strikeouts in a career-high 7 2/3 innings of work.

The Cougar offense was paced by sophomore catcher Kyle Lovelace, who went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day and compiled an RBI, while freshman second-baseman Brad Burckel went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Sophomore left-hander Clay Aguilar (3-3) picked up the win for the Cougars after giving up two earned runs on three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings on the rubber.
