Cowboys Blank Shockers Wednesday, 1-0

WICHITA, Kan. – The Oklahoma State Cowboys scratched across one run in the top of the fifth inning and held on to post a 1-0 shutout win over the Wichita State University baseball team Wednesday evening, April 10, at Eck Stadium, home of Tyler Field.

Wichita State (18-15, 3-3 American) is scheduled to host Houston for a three-game American Athletic Conference series with the opener slated for Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m.

Jordan Boyer led the Shockers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Jacob Katzfey and Brady Slavens also posted doubles in the contest. The Shocker defense turned four double-plays, increasing their season total to 33, which currently leads The American.

Senior Luke Ritter, who entered the contest with a 44-game reached base safely streak dating back to last season, had that streak snapped after going 0-for-4 at the plate. Ritter previously didn't reach base on May 5, 2018, against Cincinnati.

Freshman right-hander Connery Peters (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts in his two innings of work.

Oklahoma State (20-11) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth-inning, plating the one and only run of the game on left-fielder Noah Sifrit's single through the left side.

Left-hander Mitchell Stone (2-1) earned the win on the mound for the Cowboys after allowing no earned runs on no hits with a strikeout and walk. Logan Gragg came in and got the save for OSU in the bottom of the ninth, where he surrendered one hit and tallied one strikeout.
