Shockers Eye Fifth Straight Win over Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. - Wichita State continues its non-conference rivalry with Oklahoma State on Wednesday, looking for its fifth straight win over the Cowgirls. 

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA STATE 
Oklahoma State has jumped to No. 19 in the nation and has played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. The Cowgirls have played 10 of its first 18 games against opponents ranked or receiving votes in the top-25 poll, coming up with seven victories. Madi Montgomery leads Oklahoma State's offensive firepower, hitting .377 and in the top 10 in the Big 12 in batting average. Samantha Show has been lights out in the circle, racking up 38 strikeouts while holding an ERA of 2.10. 

LAST MEETING
Wichita State and Oklahoma State hold a fierce non-conference rivalry, with the last meeting being one of the most important wins in Shocker history. With a spot in the NCAA Regional Final on the line in Fayetteville, Ark., Madison Perrigan came up with two, two-run home runs to push Wichita State past the Cowgirls and put the Shockers in its first NCAA Regional Final in program history in 2018.    

DON'T COUNT US OUT
When the Shockers have been down to their last out, the party has just gotten started for them at the plate. Wichita State has scored 37 runs with two outs, hitting eight out of 16 of its home runs during that stretch. 

GETTING 'EM AROUND
Senior Laurie Derrico needs five home runs to move into first place in the Shocker record books. Currently in second with 35, if Derrico reaches 40 she will overtake Cacy Williams who played at Wichita State from 2014-16. Derrico has reached double figures in home runs in the previous two seasons. 

LATE INNING MAGIC 
The Shockers have put its best forward when the game is on the line, dominating its opponents in the last three innings. Wichita State has outscored its opponents 45-8 in the final three innings, allowing only three runs in that stretch in the previous nine games. 

STARTING THINGS OFF  
Wichita State's offense relies heavily on leadoff hitter, Wylie Glover. Batting mostly first in the order, the Marshall transfer is leading the Shockers in batting average with a .419 mark and has came up with a team-high 18 hits. Glover came up with her first home run against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 17. 

EXTRA MOTIVATION
Starting her career at Oklahoma State, Asea Webber has had some of her best performances against her former team. In the home matchup against the Cowgirls on April 18, 2018, Webber came up with a two-run home run to center field that gave the Shockers a 5-0 lead and lifted Wichita State to the regular season sweep over Oklahoma State.   

DEFENSE WINS
Wichita State's defense was key to its 4-0 weekend in the Red & White Showcase. The Shockers came up with two shutout wins and only allowed three total runs, only committing one error in the process. 

IT TAKES SACRIFICE 
The Shockers' unselfish play has resulted in its early season success. Laurie Derrico leads the American Athletic Conference in sacrifice bunts, while Neleigh Herring co-leads the conference in sacrifice flies. 

TAKE YOUR BASE
Lauren Mills has made an immediate impact with Wichita State in her first season, currently second on the team in batting average with a .406 mark. Mills' productivity to get on base has not only lifted the Shockers, but is already taking notice to conference opponents. She is currently second in the conference in on base percentage with .578. 

OFFENSIVE POWER 
The Shockers are leading the American Athletic Conference in several offensive categories, including batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Wichita State also holds a commanding lead in home runs and total bases amonst its conference foes. 

WHAT THE HUECK  
Kaylee Huecker has recently added a lift to the Shockers' offense. After coming up with her first RBI double against Texas Southern on March 2, she responded with two hits the following day for her career high.
