No. 28 UCF Drops Shockers in Orlando

ORLANDO – The Wichita State women's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 28 UCF Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
 
DOUBLES
The Knights clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Nandini Sharma teamed up with Marie Mattel to take down Sandra Honigova and Ting-Ya Hsu in the third flight, 6-3. No. 46-ranked Marta Bellucco and Fatima Bizhukova paced with Ksenia Kuznetsova and Valeriya Zeleva, who rank No. 18 in ITA Doubles Rankings, in the top slot. The teams were knotted at four before the Knight duo pulled away with a 6-4 win to claim the point. Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva and Esther Thebault held a 5-4 lead over Natalia Serrano and Rebeka Stolmar in the second flight before play was suspended.
 
SINGLES
UCF reeled of three quick wins on courts three, four and five to clinch the 4-0 victory over the Shockers. Marie Mattel downed Saidhujaeva in straight sets in the fourth slot, 6-0, 6-0, and Serrano followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hsu in flight five. Stolmar, who holds a 10-3 record in the third slot, knocked off Thebault (6-2, 6-2) to clinch the match. Honigova continued her stellar play, taking the first set from No. 70 Ksenia Kuznetsova (6-4) and leading 1-0 in the second before going unfinished. Bizhukova dropped the first set to No. 27 Zeleva, and trailed 3-2 in the second when play was suspended. On court six, Alexandra Lazarova got the nod and lost a close first set (7-6(5)), and led 2-0 in the second before play was stopped.

The Shockers host North Texas next Saturday (March 23) at 12 p.m. The match is scheduled to be played at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
