WICHITA, Kan. -- Behind four runs in third and fifth innings, the Wichita State baseball team snapped a four-game skid with an 8-2 win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday afternoon at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field.

Freshman
Brady Slavens came up with three hits in three at-bats, marking a career-high. Slavens also set a new career-high for RBIs, driving in three of Wichita State's eight runs.

The Shockers (6-9) had three different players tally two or more hits, with seven different batters making up Wichita State's 11 hits. Tuesday marked the fifth straight game where the Shockers reached the double-digit mark for hits.

Oral Roberts (6-7) started the game with a lead-off single, but the Shockers cleared the bases with a 4-3 double play. Following a walk and a stolen base in the top of the first,
Aaron Haase retired the side with a strikeout to prevent any damage.

Wichita State managed to get two runners on following a walk and hit by pitch, but the Golden Eagles came up with two quick fly-outs to end the first. Oral Roberts came up with two singles and drew a walk to load the bases in the top of the second, with a groundout scoring the go-ahead run. The Golden Eagles managed to load the bases once again, but
Clayton McGinness came up with a strikeout to leave the runners stranded.

Golden Eagles' designated hitter Trevor McCutchin extended the lead in the top of the third, hitting a solo home run to right field to make it a two-run lead. Capitalizing off
Jacob Katzfey getting hit by the pitch and
Jordan Boyer's single in the bottom of the third,
Hunter Gibson answered in the next at-bat with a RBI double to center that put the Shockers on the scoreboard.

The Shockers managed to tie the game thanks to sacrifice fly to center that scored Boyer. After
Paxton Wallace came up with a single, Slavens gave the Shockers the lead with a two-RBI single through the left side, which capped off the four-run bottom of the third inning for Wichita State.

Oral Roberts managed to get a runner on second in the top of the fourth, but a catch up against the left field fence in foul territory from
David VanVooren allowed the Shockers to retire the side. Wichita State extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth, with Slavens coming up with a ground-rule double to left center to bring in his third run of the game.
Ross Cadena quickly answered back, hitting his first home run of the season that brought in three runs and pushed the Shockers lead to 8-2.

McGinness came up with his first win of the season, pitching 1.2 innings and only allowing one hit. Wallace extended his career-long hit streak to eight games, going 2-for-5 at the plate. Tuesday marked the the fourth game where he had two or more RBI in an outing, coming up with his second three-RBI game of the season.

Wichita State starts a four-game series with Rhode Island, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 15, at Eck Stadium.
