Shockers Defeat ACU, Extend Winning Streak to Seven

ARLINGTON, Texas - Scoring seven unanswered runs in the final three innings, Wichita State extended its winning streak to seven games with an 8-1 win over Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon.

Madison Perrigan recorded her 100th career hit as a Shocker, going 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in two RBIs while tying her career high in doubles with two. Ryleigh Buck came up with her first home run of the season and added two RBIs, going 2-for-2 at the plate.

Erin McDonald pitched her second complete game of the season, coming up with a season-high seven strikeouts and only allowing four hits in her second win of the season.

ACU started the game with a leadoff single, loading the bases off a Shocker error in the outfield and a walk. Wichita State managed to get out of the inning with no damage, however, with Buck coming up with a diving catch in foul territory and McDonald coming up with a strikeout to retire the top of the first.

After Perrigan began the bottom of the second inning with a double to right field, she managed to score off an error by ACU. The Shockers loaded the bases off a single by Bailee Nickerson and a walk by Buck, but the Wildcats came up with a double play to retire the side.

The Wildcats managed to load the bases again in the bottom of the third, scoring the tying run off a sacrifice fly to center field. McDonald limited the damage, coming up with a strikeout and fgroundout to third base to keep things knotted at one run a piece.

Perrigan came up with her second double of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Buck's home run to left field giving the Shockers a two-run lead. With Lauren Mills roping a two-out double, Perrigan extended the lead by hitting her second home run of the season to left field.

Following Asea Webber's double, Nickerson added an insurance run with a right center double that pushed Wichita State's lead to 6-1 to cap the bottom of the fifth. Wichita State added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, with Neleigh Herring smoking a single through the right side that brought home Laurie Derrico. Mills added to the lead with a single to short, allowing Herring to score the eighth Shocker run.

The Shockers had four batters come up with at least two hits, hitting .419 as a team with a season-high 13 hits.

Wichita State (8-3) continues play in the Maverick Invitational, facing off against host UT-Arlington at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
