Shockers Snap Louisiana Tech's Winning Streak

RUSTON, La. - Scoring 10 unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth inning, Wichita State ended Louisiana Tech's eight-game winning streak after defeating the Lady Techsters 13-3 on Saturday night.

Neleigh Herring set a new career high in hits, doubles and RBI, going 3-for-3 at the plate while driving in five runs. Caitlin Bingham recorded her fourth win of the season, striking out three batters in the process.

After a single and a walk, Lauren Mills helped the Shockers get on the board first with an RBI single to the right side of the field. Herring kept the momentum going in the top of the first inning, coming up with a double to right field that drove in two more runs.

Louisiana Tech, however, was quick to respond and scored two runs a half-inning later off an RBI double and a sacrifice grounder to short. The Lady Techsters eventually knotted the score at three all, scoring off a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning. Looking for the go-ahead run, the Shockers protected the tie off Asea Webber's diving catch in center field to retire the side.

With two walks and a single by Bailee Nickerson loading the bases in the top of fourth, the Shockers drew two bases loaded walks to grab the lead 5-3. Despite Louisiana Tech getting runners at the corners, Wichita State forced Louisiana Tech into its second straight shutout inning by coming up with a pop fly and a groundout to Laurie Derrico that kept them ahead by two.

The Shockers got two leadoff runners on base after two hit by pitches, scoring two insurance runs after back-to-back bases loaded walks. A double from Derrico added two more Shocker runs, with Herring driving in three more runs off a double to center. Ryleigh Buck gave the Shockers their eighth run of the fifth inning, driving in a run off a right field single.

Mills went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI, with six different Wichita State batters recording a hit and coming up with nine hits as a team.
