WICHITA, Kan. – Helped by 30 Central Arkansas turnovers, Wichita State rolled to a 95-69 home victory on Thursday evening at Charles Koch Arena.
Â
Ten players combined for 16 steals – most by a Shocker team in over a decade and one of the five best single-game totals in program history.
Â
30 turnovers were also the most by a WSU foe in nearly 35 years. The Shockers forced 34 in a win over Hartford on Dec. 30, 1984.
Â
Grant Sherfield scored 14 of his team-high 15 points in the first half for WSU (7-1), which used runs of 11-0 and 10-0 to build a 53-28 halftime lead.
Â
Jaime Echenique,
Tyson Etienne,
Erik Stevenson and
Jamarius Burton added 13 points apiece, and
Morris Udeze finished with eight points and team-best six rebounds.
Â
Eddy Kayouloud paced UCA (1-7) with 23 points and eight rebounds.
Â
The Shockers scored 39 points off turnovers and outscored the visitors 17-1 on second chance opportunities. The Bears managed just three offensive rebounds for the night.
Â
UCA shot 49 percent from the field – best by a WSU opponent this year – and hit 8-of-21 threes.
Â
WSU finished the game at 47.3 percent from the field and knocked down 11-of-28 from long range.
