STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Shockers swept UNC-Wilmington, 4-0, Sunday in consolation play on the final day of ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
 
Doubles
The Shockers jumped out to a quick start against the Seahawks, clinching the doubles point with second and third flights wins. Murkel Dellien and Haru Inoue improve to 3-0 in dual play, knocking off Bruno Caula and Davide Innocenti on court two, 6-1. Stefan Latinovic and Andrea Caligiana jumped out to a 5-0 start over Daniel Groom and Agustin Savarino, before winning 6-3 to clinch the point. Marius Frosa and Eddie Stoica trailed 4-2 in the top spot before going unfinished.
 
Singles
Inoue raced out to a 6-0 win in his first set in flight two, on his way to a straight-set victory over UNCW's Daniel Groom to give the Shockers a 2-0 advantage. Frosa, competing on court three, followed Inoue with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-4) over the Seahawks' Michael Copeland. On court five, Stoica went up against Davide Innocenti. Stoica started strong, and ended stronger- winning a 6-4, 6-4 decision to clinch the match for the Shockers. Dellien forced a third set after dropping the first, before going unfinished. Caligiana trailed 5-2 and rallied to tie the first set at five against Caula on court four. Caula took the final two games, and the two were tied at three when play was suspended. Ovil, competing in his third dual match, rolled over Groetsch (6-1) in the first set. Groetsch rallied to take the second set (6-1). Ovil led 5-1 in the third before going unfinished.
 
With the win, the Shockers improve to 2-2 on the season with wins over Denver and UNC-Wilmington.
 
Next up: WSU travels to Tennessee for a three-game road swing against Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and Tennessee State, Feb. 3-4.
