Fatima Bizhukova completed the first day of Oracle ITA Masters Thursday with a mixed doubles win on the campus of Pepperdine University.
Bizhukova started the day teaming with Tulsa's Majed Kilani in mixed doubles action. The duo defeated Aziz Kijametovic of Old Dominion and Maria Kononova of North Texas, 6-4.
In singles, the junior took on Adrijana Lekaj of Pepperdine. Bizhukova fell behind early to Lekaj, 4-0, before rallying to win three-straight games and cut the deficit to 4-3. Lekaj rallied to take the final two games and the first set, 6-3.
Bizhukova got on the board early in the second, breaking Lekaj to take an early 1-0 lead. The two rallied in the next few games, with Bizhukova holding a 3-2 advantage. Lekaj came back to win two games in a row and a 4-3 lead. The two held serve before Lekaj grabbed the final two games to take the set (7-5) and the match, 6-3, 7-5.
Bizhukova and Kilani took on Ito of Texas and Rioux and Oklahoma State in the night cap of mixed doubles, where they fell to the No. 1 overall seed, 6-1.
