Women Finish 11th at MSSU Southern Stampede

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Shocker women's team finished 11th at the 29th Annual Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday morning.
 
Despite the majority of the cross country program resting this week, the women's team sent seven student-athletes and the men's team entered Ethan Kossover in the 29th Annual Missouri Southern Stampede.
 
The women competing with seven athletes, entered four freshmen, two sophomores and one senior. Making her Shocker debut, true freshman Halle Johnson led the group to an 11th place team finish. The Bennington, Kan., native finished the 5K course 30th overall with a time of 18:34.9
 
Fellow freshmen, Amber Reed placed 51st in 18:56.9 and Destini Eskridge made her Shocker debut placing 52nd with a time of 18:57.3. Redshirt senior Tangy Wiseman ran 19:36.3 to finish 105th and sophomore Hope Saunders rounded out the scoring for the Shockers finishing 135th with a time of 19:57.9.
 
Other Shocker finishers on the women's side include, redshirt freshman Camryn Slatten in 169th place (20:27.3) and redshirt sophomore Emma Stamm in 178th place (20:34.9).
 
The 5K University/Open race featured 323 athletes. American Athletic Conference rival Tulsa won the team competition finishing four in the top 10, including a pair of Tulsa athletes finishing first and second. Reagan Hausmann won the race in 17:26.5, followed by sophomore Caitlin Klopfer.
 
In the men's 8K, Ethan Kossover was the lone Shocker entered in the race. The sophomore competed against 276 other athletes and finished in 103rd overall with a time of 27:42.5.
 
Tulsa won the men's team title finishing four in the top-15, including third place finisher Peter Lynch (24:56.2). Jacob Klemz of Washburn University won the individual title with a time of 24:45.4.
 
Next the Shockers will travel in full strength to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the Chile Pepper on Sept. 22.
