COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Wichita State women's tennis team finished up the first day of the Mizzou Invite with a win in singles and doubles at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
The Shockers took on Denver in singles in the morning session, with senior
Sandra Honigova collecting the lone win for WSU. Honigova, who ranks No. 94 in preseason rankings, won the first set over Bianca Mok before seeing Mok win the second to force a deciding third. Honigova rolled in the third (6-1) to win the match over Mok, who ranks No. 104 in the latest ITA/Oracle Rankings.. In flights two and three,
Marta Bellucco was defeated by Hada Chang (7-5, 6-4) and
Ting-Ya Hsu fell to Wichita native Anna Riedmiller in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).
Junior
Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva took on Arisha Ladhani in the fourth spot, while sophomore
Alexandra Lazarova faced Tatum Berger on court five. Saidhujaeva fell 7-5, 6-1 while Lazarova lost a tight match with Burger (6-3, 7-5) to end the day in singles action.

Marta Bellucco and
Fatima Bizhukova put the Shockers on the board against Mizzou in doubles with a win over Marta Oliveira and Vivien Abraham. Hsu and Saidhujaeva fell short to Mackenzy Middlebrooks and Ellie Wright (7-5) and Honigova and Lazarova fell to Serena Nash and Lisa Fukutoku (6-2).
The Shockers will continue play in the Mizzou Invite tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. with doubles play versus Denver and singles against Memphis around 2 p.m.
